Brothers and Sisters, I bring word to you of an event of great joy and wonder.  The Barony of Seven Sleeping Dragons shall meet this very weekend, upon Saturday the 23rd of July, in the holy and sacrosanct Park of Santa Rosa upon the borders of the Highway known as 1.  And yea, at the first hour past noon on that day, there will be a clashing of foam sticks, and the thump-thump-thump of feet shall echo across the grass.  Rejoice, and make your presence felt!

In addition to our regular meeting (1-4 PM, Santa Rosa Park, Saturday the 16th), we will be holding a demonstration event in Arroyo Grande this week (1-4 PM, Elm Street Park, Arroyo Grande, Sunday the 17th).  We will be having several events like this in the upcoming weeks and months, so we may as well get a routine established as soon as we can.

These demos are focused on recruiting new members: All participants are encouraged to wear garb and be friendly.  In time, we may have large fancy banners to encourage people to actually stop by and play, but for now we’re just going to have to go with force of personality to carry the day.

This week’s demo will be at Elm Street Park in Arroyo Grande.  A link to directions is included at the bottom of the email, or you can follow these coming in from the north on 101:

1. Take exit 187B (Halcyon) to merge onto N Halcyon Rd.
2. Turn right onto Fair Oaks Ave.

Fair Oaks will dead end at Elm Street, with the park clearly visible across Elm to the right.  We will be at the end away from the dog park, up toward Ash Street.

For most of us, this demo will serve as a chance to get a bit more fighting in on the weekend.  It will also provide a class credit for everyone who shows up and participates.

The Barony of Seven Sleeping Dragons will, as usual, be meeting this upcoming Saturday from 1 to 4 PM at Santa Rosa Park.  We’ll be taking a poll to see who’s going to be available for demos in the next couple of weeks.  We will also have a couple of visitors from elsewhere in Westmarch if all goes according to the current plan.

To nobody’s surprise, Amtgard will start up at 1:00 PM this Saturday, and continue until 4:00 or we’re all exhausted.  While later weekends in the month will play host to recruiting events, this will be business as usual as we all ramp up for the 4th of July.

While the Barony of Seven Sleeping Dragons will be meeting this weekend, there are a few things our members should be aware of.  First, attendance this weekend will be low.  Several of us will be away for personal reasons, and many of our remaining members will be at Polycon.

We are, in fact, running a demonstration at Polycon Friday afternoon.  Anybody interested in helping out should show up on the lawn across from the University Union at 2 PM on Friday, June 24th.

With so many of us away, we will need someone willing to bring the loaner gear to the field on Saturday.  Anybody willing and able to ensure that our members have weapons available should contact me by email, or by phone – my number is available through the weekly email.

Next weekend is Polycon, which will claim a fair chunk of our usual membership.  We are currently looking for volunteers to run a demo on site to look for new recruits – details will be available at the field.

The usual Amtgard rigamarole will be going on this Saturday from 1 to 4 at Santa Rosa park.  However, a few of us are going to be attending the Westmarch Tutorial for Fighters (WTF) in San Jose instead.  This means, among other things, that an intermediary is needed to get the loaner gear to the field so our new champion can take over lugging it around.  Any volunteers should contact me by email (griffin at sloamtgard.com) or by phone (Redacted).  Kairos (our new champion) got in touch with me within minutes of this announcement.  The matter has been handled.

Amtgard will, as usual, be running from 1 to 4 at Santa Rosa Park this upcoming Saturday.

We will be holding a brief Althing vote on the issue of the Shire of Ashen Spire’s promotion to Barony, and discussing recruiting events over the next few months.

In other news, the second Westmarch Tutorial for Fighters is being held next Saturday (June 11th) at Ashen Spire’s field in San Jose.

Remember, if you want to build weapons, you get a free sword and dagger core along with your dues payment.  Additional weapon cores are available for $4.00 – dagger cores are free with a sword core purchase until we get rid of some of the damn things.

As you may or may not have noticed, we also have a new website.  Features will be brought online as we go, but for now it’s fairly bare bones.
